3.3 Extracting and organising information

Taking notes as you read articles is a great way to start writing your first draft and saves you time by only reading articles once. As well as extracting information from articles, also think about how you will organise this information and where it will go in your literature review.

Remember your focus questions?

Use these questions to take notes, organise your ideas and start building the structure of your literature review.

Option 1: Word document

In a Word document or note-book you might want to head up some pages with your questions about the topic. When you find information relating to that question add it to the page with the reference.

Example

Option 2: A table

Compare different studies and research articles using a table. Choose headings that are relevant to your purpose and the information you want to extract and compare.
