We have developed these case examples as 'virtual patients' to show you how experts gather and use information to diagnose common paediatric presentations.

We also want to show you how the basic sciences you learn in Phase I help you solve clinical problems.

By working through these virtual patients you will be able to assess your knowledge and understanding of common paediatric disorders and compare your approach to that of an expert.

Note: throughout the case examples, you will see this icon . Click on it to see the 'Expert view'.

We suggest you use pen and paper to jot down your responses in the early part of the case. Once you get into the decision making part of the case, you can use the on-screen notebook provided (we are working on making this available in both parts). By writing or typing your responses you can make a clear comparison with the 'expert ' thinking. You will get the most out of the cases this way.

These virtual patients are still in development so we would be very interested in your feedback when you have finished - see the link to online feedback within the case.
