Communication skills

Much debate surrounds the role of doctoral training and the last decade has seen a greater emphasis placed on candidates enhancing their professional skills (Mowbray & Halse, 2010). Communication skills frequently appear in lists of generic skills to be developed as part of a PhD programme in the UK, Australia and US (Gilbert, Balatti, Turner, & Whitehouse, 2004).
