Advanced Search
Click on the drop down menu arrow on the far right of the search box to use Advanced Search in Google Scholar.
File Type Search
To search for a specific file type: e.g. doc, enter your search term and filetype:doc.
Use polystyrene packaging filetype:pdf to find results that are pdf documents on polystyrene packaging in Google Scholar.
Site Search
Searching for a specific kind of site
To find educational or government sites, type in your search term and one of these: site:ac, site:edu, site:govt, site:gov. Please also check the Finding Official Information page in the online tutorial.
Finding a term in a title or url
To find the term in the title of a page, type in allintitle:polystyrene.
To find the term in the url, type in allinurl:polystyrene . Use the limit date, usage rights, numeric range, and more under Advanced Search.

Beware
Google Scholar is not comprehensive - you won't find everything. There may not be much recent content, not everything is available full-text, and some content isn't scholarly.
University of Auckland Library databases can provide more focused or in-depth results due to better coverage, quality control and search functionality.
