Blended Learning Calculator (draft)
The intention of this diagnostic & heuristic tool is to provide teaching staff with an indication of how the design and delivery of their Canvas courses sits in relation to peer institutions using globally recognised quality assurance and course auditing resources from organisations like Quality Matters (QM). Within an environment where a strong institutional Vision for Learning and Teaching exists, a minimum expectation for the use of Canvas would be supported by an institutional Technology-Enhanced Framework (TEL), a TEL Roadmap and online diagnostic tools like this calculator. The calculator is specifically designed to reference the Guide to Blended Learning from the Commonwealth of Learning and Course Design Rubric Standards from QM.
Instructions for use
The course calculator is composed of 5 components. Each component of the calculator contains a number of expected course features. Finally, an editable tick box (MET?) on the right side of the screen allows users to identify the features that are present in a course. For each Canvas course, check off each of the features that have been incorporated into the design of your course. An aggregate score will be calculated at the bottom of this webpage and will indicate the level of Blended Learning you are currently achieving as defined by QM.
The term Deliberate Learning Experience (DLE) is intentionally vague but can be adjusted to reflect specific disciplinary, faculty and institutional needs. Additionally, within the QM context, "Peer review" is achieved through certified internal or external processes which the University of Auckland does not currently have.
