Welcome!
Welcome to the University of Auckland Libraries and Learning Services. Whether you are a new postgraduate student or have been at the University of Auckland as an undergraduate, these modules are designed to help you get to grips with business information and the resources available to you in the library.
Library locations
Where is the Library?
General Library
Most of the books you'll need for your Business and Economics courses are held in the General Library in Alfred Street.
Books that are in high demand are in the Short Loan Collection. Ask at the Lending Desk on the ground floor. These books can be taken out for a short time only, usually 1-2 hours.
Davis Law Library
The Davis Law Library (13-15 Eden Crescent) has most of the Commercial Law material.
Kate Edger Information Commons
The Kate Edger Information Commons (KEIC), opposite the General Library, has facilities such as computers, photocopiers/printers.
The Library online
The University of Auckland Libraries and Learning Services website (www.library.auckland.ac.nz) has an enormous range of resources and collections.
You'll need your username and password to access some of the electronic resources. For help with this, take your Campus Card to the IC Helpdesk (Level 2, Kate Edger Information Commons).
Getting help
Librarians are here to help. If you have an enquiry you can:
Finding and borrowing
Search the Catalogue and borrow books
From the Library homepage you can search for a wide range of library resources: books, articles, databases, study and research guides.
Use the menus and the drop-down arrow next to Search Everything to restrict your search.
For more information consult the guide to using the Libraries and Learning Services homepage.
Go to the Catalogue for more precise searching of a smaller range of resources. The Advanced Search interface to the Catalogue is recommended as you can choose which fields of the record you are searching.
Choose which resources you want to search:
Books+ includes items held in our Library: books, journals, images, streaming audio and video, maps, manuscripts and archives, music scores and exam papers.
Articles and more includes items from a vast number of journal publishers and databases.
Combined includes both options.
Read the Introduction to the Catalogue for more help.
From a search of the Catalogue you can then get details of the location (call number) of the book or journal or a link to an electronic version, and details about the item such as year published and whether it is available to borrow.
To borrow a book, take it to the self-issue machines or the Lending Desk on the Ground Floor of the General Library.
| Note: Although Articles and more gives access to the full text of some magazine and journal articles you should use one of the business databases for in-depth searching. See Modules Three and Four for more on database searching. |
