Exam expectations
The truth about examiners
Examiners are human beings. They do not like failing students and want to see you succeed. Spare a thought for your examiners who have to read your handwriting! A neatly presented paper, that is easy to read, with all your answers clearly set out, will immediately bring the markers on your side.
Exam expectations
Knowing what to expect from the exam will help you focus your revision and use study techniques appropriate for the exam you're going to sit.
It's a bit like checking the weather forecast and preparing for the conditions.
There are several ways to anticipate what the exam will look like.
Where do I find information about the exam?
1. Course guide
Have a look in the front of your course guide. There may be information about the length of the exam, the type of questions and which topics will be covered.
2. Go to the exam tutorial or lecture
Towards the end of semester there will often be a tutorial or lecture that covers the exam format and what to expect in the exam. This is also a good opportunity to ask questions and clarify things you have misunderstood.
3. Access past exam papers
Look at the most recent exam papers to get a feel for what the exam has looked like in the past. The exam may change for this semester, so it is a good idea to go the exam tutorial and refer to the course guide.
