Information on the Postgraduate courses in Infant, Child & Adolescent Mental Health (for some general information on ICAMH, click here)

offered by the Department of Psychological Medicine

of the Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences

of the University of Auckland (Grafton Campus)

These courses are designed to develop the knowledge and skills of those in work where the focus is addressing the mental health difficulties and needs of children and / or adolescents.

Since the courses began in 1998, the Postgraduate Certificate (the core courses / qualification) has been completed by over 500 student-clinicians from all parts of New Zealand. Many have gone on to complete the other courses (the "elective" courses - Diploma and now the Masters).

Most have been nurses, occupational therapists and social workers working in ICAMH or similar services. Over the years, we have also been very pleased to have a number of psychologists, trainee psychiatrists, GP’s and school counsellors.

The fact that over 500 working clinicians of different disciplines from all over NZ have completed the Certificate course shows that it can be done while working and should give you hope!

Common feedback from graduates is, "If they haven't already done something like it, everyone working in a CAMH service or similar should do the Certificate!"

Courses are "blended", combining some on-campus teaching with online presentations and work on Canvas, the University's online learning management system.

Coursework is based on day to day clinical work.

If you want to express interest, then email Ben (below).

You need to apply for a University place (if not yet open, email Ben with an expression of interst)

If you need funding and are eligible, you also need to apply for funding (available for the Certificate and two other courses).
