1.4 Dissecting your topic and question
Start by working out the focus of your literature review and getting a broad idea about the topic.
1. Identify the key topic and focus words in your question.

2. Get a broad idea about the topic
- Define any unfamiliar terms e.g. consult your lecture slides, Wikipedia or textbook.
- Find a recent review article or the latest research published on this topic. See finding, organising and evaluating information.
3. Ask questions and brainstorm ideas
- What is the role of eNOS under normal conditions?
- What happens under pathophysiological conditions?
- What are the underlying biological mechanisms?
- What are the current treatments?
- How effective are they?
- What new treatments are being developed?
- Why are they promising?
- Is it worthwhile pursuing research into treatments targeting this enzyme?
