3. Critical reading and note-taking
3.1 Reading strategy - finding what you need
Skim reading helps you get a quick overview of the article and helps you prioritise what you need to read in-depth.
1. Get a quick overview of article topic and structure by reading:
- Title/abstract
- End of the introduction/conclusion
- Headings
- Topic sentences
- Diagrams and tables
2. Decide if the article is relevant and whether you need to read it:
- What is the purpose of reading this article?
- What information are you looking for?
- Do you need to read the whole article? Or just one section?
