What is it?
Everyday objects become connected to the internet via microchip technologies such as RFID tags, sensors, barcodes. This allows information to be attached to the objects and means they can be tracked.

Examples:
- Northern Arizona University – uses RFID tags embedded in student identification cards to automate attendance tracking (see article in RFID Journal May 24 2010 on this project http://www.rfidjournal.com/articles/view?7628)
- Otago Museum – uses RFID tags on items to track movement and streamline collection management processes http://www.vernonsystems.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=155.
