  • Before you examine a baby there are useful pointers from taking a good history from the mother that will be helpful. We have already covered taking a medical and obstetric history in pregnancy earlier in this course. Now we want to think about what may alert us to the possibility of an at risk baby. The age of the mother, her social and family history along with her past medical and obstetric history may give you important information.
  • Details from the history of this pregnancy and from the birth are obviously going to be necessary before examining the baby. Under the headings below jot down on the Notepad the areas that you will need to cover in the history taking -then you can check with our answers
