4.4 Relate findings to the underlying biology

Finally, you need to relate any research findings to the underlying biology or physiology. Below is an example of a paragraph where the author relates the research to the biological system.

Example

The second BH4 analogue of note is ADDP (6-acetyl-7,7- dimethyl-7,8-dihydropterin) (9). It is at an earlier stage of development but has been shown to produce effects similar to BH4, restoring eNOS function in animal models of disease. Cell culture studies have revealed it crosses the lipid bilayer and hence may overcome one of the potential reasons for 6R-BH4’s failure. However its safety has yet to be established longterm (10). Lipid solubility also increases the potential risk as it will pass through the blood-brain barrier and may affect neurological function. It, along with other novel variations of BH4, provides some potential for future treatment with promising preclinical and short-term effects that may yet be translated to long-term health.
